BA Seminar Translation
Dr Marta Bogusławska-Tafelska
The
meetings are organised around the analyses of the students’ individual research
programs towards their BA dissertations. The academic teacher will expand the
students’ awareness with regard to psycholinguistic
and cognitive contexts in the translation process.
Translation is dicussed to be a process, individualised and contextualised not only by the SL and TL codes, SL and TL cultures, SL and TL target audiences and the overall aim of the translation; but also by the cognitive, emotional and situational filters active in humans involved in the SL and TL text productions. These, in turn, determine the strategic work and decision-making on the part of a well-trained and self-aware translator.
This expanded perspective on the art and craft of traslation, beyond the systemic and formal aspects towards the human aspects, is to help students – course participants - develop within themselves their expert profiles and adopt their expert roles.
In order to obtain the academic teacher’s signature and final mark, the student is asked to comply with the following:
- the attendance in the course meetings is obligatory; a student can have one unexcused absence in a semester; all other absences are to be excused with a doctor’s leave, or some other formal document;
- the student is asked to comply with all the home and classroom assignments given by the academic teacher.
